All YMCA programs are tools that the staff and volunteers of the Freeman Southwest Family YMCA use to accomplish its mission, achieve its vision of building strong kids, strong families and strong communities, and reinforce the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.

The programs available through the YMCA reflect the needs of the local community. These programs include:

SPRING 2008

YMCA Preschool/Child Care
A high quality educational preschool/ child care for children ages 2-6. The center is open Monday-Friday from 6:00 am – 5:30 pm. Full-day openings are now available. Monday- Friday or MWF or TTh schedules accommodated. Potty training not required. Breakfast, lunch, and snack provided. Preschool curriculum, physical activities, and social interaction emphasized. State pay accepted. Scholarships are available. Contact Tina at 455-9999 to tour or for more information.

Child Watch
Available to watch children 6 weeks to 7 years while parents use the YMCA facility, up to 2 hours at a time.

School's Day Out
For ages 5-12
Fun-filled days, 7:00 am- 6:00 pm, when Neosho Public Schools are out. Activities include sports, swimming, field trips, arts, crafts and games. Kids need to bring a sack lunch, swimming suit and towel.
Pre-registration is required.
Enrollment is limited.
Registrations received the morning of program cannot be guaranteed.

YMCA Afterschool Program at Neosho R-5 Elementary Schools
Registration begins May5
Program starts August 25
Children will participate in a variety of activities, clubs and field trips. Homework help and tutoring time will also be available. Program runs from the time school dismisses until 6:00 pm. Spaces are limited, so be sure to register early. Programs are offered at Benton, Carver, Central, Goodman, and South.
State pay accepted. Financial assistance available.

YMCA Afterschool Summer School Program
Registration begins May 5
Bus transports kids to the YMCA after school dismissal until 6:00 pm.

YMCA Day Camp
Registration begins April 14.
For boys and girls 6-12 years old, YMCA Day Camp is a summer adventure everyone enjoys! These week-long day camps leave the Y and are based at area parks.  Camps provide children with an active week of nature and indoor and outdoor fun and are a great outdoor alternative to child care.  In addition to all the camp activities of hiking, skits, songs, games, and swimming, the YMCA character development values of caring, respect, honesty and responsibility are integrated into the program.  Help create a lifelong memory by sending your child to camp! Birthday Parties
Have your best birthday ever at the YMCA. Each 1 ½ hour party includes 45 minutes of fun music, games and activities and 45 minutes for food and cake time. Birthday child receives a Happy Birthday T-shirt and each party guest receives a fun Y treat bag. Swimming is available during open swim times before or after the party. Parent supplies food and cake. No candles please. For more information or to schedule a party, contact Tina. Two week advanced notice is required.
Member fee: $ 95.00 for up to 10 children
Community Participant fee: $115.00 for up to 10 children
$2/ each additional child over 10 children.

Summer Theatre
July 1-31, 4:00-5:30 pm
Two performances on the 1st and 3rd of August
Come join us on stage for either "Beauty and the Beast" or "Alice in Wonderland". Kids ages 6-16 will have the chance to be on stage. Everyone gets a part.
Member fee: $75.00
Community Participant fee: $100.00

Itty Bitty and Junior Tee Ball
April 17-May 17
All games are on Saturday mornings, beginning April 26. Games schedule will be distributed at 2nd practice. Itty Bitty level requires parent participation at practice and during games. Contact Beth for more information.

Youth Karate
Youth will learn the basics of martial arts along with character building and self-discipline. Ages 6 through 12. Instructor: Jim Moore. Classes offered every month.

Mother's Day Basket-Silent Auction
YMCA Communities are donating items to fill lovely gift baskets for Mom. Each themed basket is unique and makes a special gift. All baskets will be displayed in the YMCA entrance May 2-8. Stop by to make your bid. Highest bid wins the basket. Bids will be taken through noon on Thursday, May 8. Winning bidders will be notified May 8-9. All baskets must be picked up and paid for by Saturday, May 10. All proceeds go to the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign.

Breakfast with the Bunny
Kids ages 1-12 join in the fun on Saturday, March 22. Breakfast just $1.00 per person for muffin or donut and juice or milk. Moms and Dads, be sure to bring your cameras! After breakfast, join in the Crowder College Egg Hunt. Breakfast: 9:00-11:00 am.

Broadway Show

Snorkel Class
Thursdays
7:00-8:00 pm

Learn the basics of snorkeling, how to swim with fins, and much more. If you have your own equipment, please bring it. Limited amounts of equipment available. Must be 12 or older to participate.
Member fee: $2.00 per day
Community Participant fee: $8.00 per day

Scuba
The YMCA Scuba Program will be offered by late spring. See Beth Taylor for details and to sign-up for a class time. Space is limited. The Certification will cover the cost of the class, with a separate Open Water Dive Cost.

Y Lifeguard Course
April 24-May 10 (40 hour course)
Course includes CPR-PR, First Aid and Y Lifeguard Certification. Candidates must be 16 years old before the final scheduled session. Prerequisite Swim includes 400 yard swim including sidestroke, crawl, breaststroke, elementary backstroke kick and lifesaving stroke; tread water for 2 minutes without using arms; and dive to 9 feet deep and retrieve diving brick. All class sessions are mandatory.

Y Basic Swim Instructor Course
May 27-30, 7:00 am-6:00 pm
Course includes instruction and practical experience in skills needed to teach swimming lessons and become a certified swim instructor. Must be 16 years old and have CPR-PR, First Aid, O2 and AED. All sessions are mandatory. Certification is good for 2 years.

Lap Swimming Mileage Club
Be a part of a program but swim at your own pace. Each swimmer who reaches 50 miles within the span of a year receives a mileage award. Club members meet annually to celebrate and encourage their fellow club mates. Contact Beth for details.

Southwest Missouri Otters YMCA Swim Team
Starts May 12
The YMCA competitive swimming program is based on the YMCA's mission of building strong character in youth and families. Great YMCA staff and knowledgeable YMCA parent volunteers are a great help in this mission. Head Coach Shana Meadows believes that anyone, regardless of age or ability, can be taught to swim faster and farther with less effort.

We have open enrollment throughout the season. Regular season for Bronze, Silver, & Gold ends July 25 . Swimmers who qualify for Zones will swim through August 10. There are several meets. Meet participation is strongly and considered a reward for practicing hard. Meet fees are non-refundable. There is a $60 one-time yearly USA registration fee per swimmer. Joints In Motion: This program is designed specifically for those who suffer from arthritis or other forms of discomfort. This is a low key class, yet very beneficial as it increases flexibility and strengthens muscles.

SilverSplash: designed to enhance the quality of life and daily function by using the properties of water to enhance cardiovascular fitness, range of motion, agility, balance and coordination.

SilverSneakers®Muscle Strength and Range of Movement: Muscle Strength and Range of Movement is a trademarked group exercise class designed for older adults. Exercises include work for all major and minor muscle groups addressing strength, flexibility, muscular endurance, balance, coordination, agility, speed and power.

Tai Chi: A relaxing, beginner level class that promotes improved circulation, flexibility, and balance.

Have you done the yo-yo dieting and exercise programs? Starting and stopping, not finding a way to maintain a healthy lifestyle? The Personal Fitness Program is for you. This program emphasizes exercise and nutrition habits with support to help you learn and then manage a healthy lifestyle. This is a group and individual effort. Small groups meet to learn together and provide support. Staff follows up with individuals as the program progresses and even after the formal program ends. Membership and Program Scholarships

No one will be denied participation in YMCA programs or membership because of inability to pay. The YMCA, with the help of the annual Strong Kids Campaign, provides scholarships or reduced cost memberships to low income or needy individuals or families. Applications are available at the Welcome Center Desk.

Credit/Refund/Transfer
Policy

Credit to a future program is available to cancellations prior to the start of the program. If you are dissatisfied with a program or class, please tell us so we can correct the problem. If the class is cancelled by the YMCA due to low enrollment, a full refund is available. To change classes, a $5.00 transfer fee will apply.
